So you haven't even started your shopping yet and don't have a clue about where to begin. Don't panic, but do read on for what NOT to buy for your gf or wife and why:
1. Gym Memberships
Quickest way to say 'I think your body is sooo NOT hot!' #DontDoIt
If they run out and sign up after 12-25 on their own, not a problem, but if you buy it as a surprise, it's going to get ugly. Mark my words.
Do I really have to explain this one? Might as well tell someone their breathe reeks, their personal hygiene is poor and they need to ramp it up ASAP.
Speaking of toothbrushes, Sonicare does make a kickass one in case you're in the market for a new option (for yourself, not as gift!). And my niece tells me that her hygienist swears that unless you're brushing with an electric one, don't even bother. Wowza!~ I mean that's saying something, no?
3. Socks And Underwear
Unless the underwear is La Perla or lace-y, forget about it. One more thing, LaPerla is bombdotcom.
4. Vacuum Cleaners
And any other household appliance. This also includes blenders, toasters and coffee makers. Sure fire way to guarantee you won't get any from your wife or gf (or both) for the rest of the winter.
If you find yourself still wanting that expresso maker, go out and pick one up at one of the after Christmas sales.
5. Gift Cards...Maybe
Tread carefully here.
If she has her eye on something pricey at a certain store and is actively hinting about wanting gift cards from that store, then giving a GC is A-OK. If, however, you're running out today or tomorrow to buy GC's at any store that (at this late date) has the shortest lines, you've making a big mistake. #GoodLuck
And now, here's where to find some of the best gifts that will make you look like a holiday hero:
Frog & Toad, 795 Hope St. - Where Art Meets Kitsch With A Strong Shot Of Locally Made Items.
Sonya's - Everything from gowns to cocktail to costume jewels for the DIVA in your life. It's the destination for Glamour with a capital G. It's also where at least 2 of the cast of Bravo's Game Of Crowns shop. Wink!
A few years ago, my sister gave me a high waisted black skirt with a side slit from Sonya's that I wish I still had in my closet. It was a real head turner.
Galapagos - If I were ever going to open my own clothing store, I'd want it to be just like Galapagos. From the cute little cafe and shelves lined with books on the first floor to the selection of denim, knits and more on the 2nd, I could spend hours browsing, trying on and buying.
All the gifts I've received from Galapagos (including jackets by Milly and DVF as well as a neat silver ring I later lost when I took it off to wash my hands somewhere. Hope whoever has my ring is enjoying it dammit!) rank high on my list of all time favs.
Ciao for Now,
