Whether you fancy hot coffee (Yes, some of us still reach for pipping hot coffee in 80 and 90 degree temps.) or iced, you'll appreciate these three sensational spots for a java jolt that also offer fab water views. We've spied and tried them all in our travels around the Ocean State this spring and (almost) summer.
Coffee Grinder in Newport
Tucked away behind dozens of other shops and eateries on Bannister Wharf, we were pleasantly surprised to recently discover Coffee Grinder, a small but mighty coffee shop that also has pastry, sandwiches, fresh fruit, and dozens of other drinks on the menu. We absolutely adored our coffees as well as the fact that we got to drink them while sitting out on a deck with such ahhh-mazing views of Newport Harbor. (Photos above.) #postcardperfect
Presto Strange O Coffee Truck in PVD
Been to the Providence Flea yet? Every Sunday, June thru mid-September, on South Water Street, it's a must see in Lil' Rhody. For starters, and for all our fellow shopping beauties, there are tents where you can buy anything and everything from locally designed jewelry and t-shirts to vintage clothing and furniture to doggie treats and house plants. (Full Disclosure: We're leaving out a ton of other cool stuff, including live music.) On the outskirts of the tents? Some of the most popular food trucks around, including Presto Strange O Coffee. We recommend grabbing a few cups of their organic joe - before or after shopping the tents - and taking them over to the (nearby) walkway area along the PVD River, where you can gaze upon such sights as the often-Instagram'ed power plant (Our guide from the Providence River Boat Tour said it's one of THE most photographed power plants in the whole world.), the 'Superman' building (Yeah, yeah, we know...), and more.
Coastal Roasters in Tiverton
Our introductory visit to Coastal Roasters was on a grey day a few months ago, back when we first started trying to track down some PVDonuts. (If you haven't sampled them, you are missing out.) CR definitely has a lot to offer - delicious coffee (Beans hand roasted fresh daily btw.), a sweet small town vibe, and an outdoor set up that, this time of year especially, is tailor made for mobile uploading to Instagram and Facebook or just taking a meditative breather from what's stressing you. Add in the colorful adirondack chairs that overlook the Sakonnet River/Mt. Hope Bay (See photo above.) and that ginormous, brightly colored sign at the front of the shop and it all spells cheery, upbeat excursion.
