This Rhody Artist Has Painted Style Icons & Superstars & You Could Be Next
You may have seen or heard of 'live' painting in the past, but friend of the blog Janelle Feigley (aka, Elle Art, as she's known in the local art scene) is truly taking it to the next level with her own brand of vivacious artistry! Over the past year, she's picked up her brushes and motored all over RI and the surrounding areas to paint (abstract) portraits of icons and superstars like Iris Apfel when she visited Newport, Johnny Depp (and the rest of the Hollywood Vampires who were playing a gig at Foxwoods), and none other than T. Swift herself when she played Gillette.
Maybe you caught her live painting on The Rhode Show last month? Or at the Newport Art Museum's Wet Paint 2018 event after that? Or in the most recent issue of SO RI? In the midst of all this, she's also transformed her shop in Wickford, Gossip, into a space that now combines two of her passions - a carefully curated selection of the best casual clothing (denim continues to be one of her signature looks, both in the store and IRL) and her art work. Most days you'll find her working on new pieces while one or more of her staff of stylists is on hand to help with assisting customers. It's a lively combination of creative energy and style inspo you won't experience anywhere else in the OS.
Recently, I had a chance to have my portrait done...Next thing I know I'm sitting on a rowboat in the middle of a body of water not far from Wickford town center with Janelle working intently on the project at hand. And I wouldn't expect anything less from her. I mean, how many can say they've been painted LIVE on a rowboat?
Currently, Janelle is preparing to kick off her next project, a follow up to last year's The People Project, another ambitious undertaking that had her painting 31 women - all impacted in some way by breast cancer - in 31 days. She's looking for models to be part of TPP 2018 (Last year she was swamped with inquiries!), so definitely check out her social (Links are below.) for more details.
