We Had An Al Fresco Pizza Party For 2 At This South County Spot And Yum

We found ourselves in a curious situation yesterday afternoon.

I had an errand in NK and thought that immediately following we’d find somewhere in the vicinity with outdoor seating where we could have lunch.

Well, the rain and the surprising number of restaurants in the Saunderstown, Narragansett and Wakefield area that apparently close up shop between 1:30 and 2pm on Sunday (which tbh was news to me) almost put a proverbial wrench in that plan.

I say almost because after walking out on an offer of coffee only from an eatery in South County Commons that was apparently closing in 10 or 15 minutes, we walked a little further and happened upon Pasquale’s Pizzeria. (I later found out that their tagline on IG is “from Naples to South County, Rhode Island” and that resonates with me in a big way because my mom’s mother emigrated from Naples, Italy back in the day.)

It was bustling with couples picking up to-go orders, small groups waiting for tables and still more people inside eating and watching the game.

Now I’m still not entirely comfortable sitting inside for a meal, but no worries because Pasquale’s has a nice outdoor set-up that even works when it comes to precipitation: Namely, a back patio with a handful of tables spaced safely apart and thankfully (because of the drizzling and later downpours that seemed like they didn’t want to let up, then finally did around 2 o’clock) a tent style overhang.

We ordered a house salad and a large pie that we devoured hungrily. (If you eat greens 🥗 with your pizza that makes it healthier, right?)

I could eat pizza 5 nights a week — and sometimes I do — and if like me, you prefer a thin Neapolitan style pie that’s flavorful and light yet still entirely satisfying, I would strongly suggest adding Pasquale’s to your digital rolodex (your South County foodie list per se) for future reference.

*Pasquale’s Pizzeria Napoletana is open daily and located at 59 South County Commons Way in Wakefield, RI.
