We Had Lunch In An Igloo At This Iconic Narragansett Restaurant And It Was Awesome

Yesterday Afternoon On The Patio At CGH

We had lunch yesterday at 40 Ocean Road (also known at the Coast Guard House) and from start to finish, it was an outstanding time!

Sure, igloos are popping up at just about every Rhody eatery and restaurant rn (and for v. good reason), but the ones at CGH are right on the water, so close in fact that you can actually hear the crashing of the waves. What could be better? I mean, isn’t that one of the biggest advantages of living here in the Ocean State?

Now I was more than a little worried that we would be cold. I even wore my new cozy sweater from Cuyana (high quality without the designer price tag, jus sayin) along with a pair of polartech leggings and the sleeping bag coat I got for Christmas. Well, believe me when I say that there were indeed some snow flurries, but our dining bubble was not in the least bit chilly, thanks to an electric fireplace (see photos below) and a portable heater.

It was also adorable as far as decor goes: white couches, chandelier, that fireplace, and some white faux snowflakes overhead too for good measure.

And the food? Tbh, the menu was a little heavy on the meats and with the exception of the occasional piece of fish, I’ve eaten mostly vegetarian for the last 8 years. I did find a portabella mushroom burger and a beet salad and both were pretty tasty. The hubs? He was only too happy to have the chance to devour both a caesar salad and one of their lobster rolls.

If you’re interested in booking a lunch or dinner there, you will want to ring them up directly. While I understand that the Coast Guard House is on Open Table, the bubbles must be reserved via phone. Also, there is a $75 rental fee (that’s on top of any food and drink that you order) which gives you 2 hours in one of their enchanting igloos.
