We're Pretty Jazzed About This Speakeasy On South Main In Providence

We’ve been listening to a lot of Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, and Sirius XM channel 67 (aka, Real Jazz) in the car, so it’s not at all surprising that we actually ended up at The Walnut Room on South Main in Providence last night.

Every third Thursday of the month, they have live jazz by way of the Blue Martini Trio (a pleasant surprise that we didn’t find out about until after we were seated) and a corresponding drink special — this go ‘round it was a bright BLUE MARTINI made with London Dry Gin, fresh squuezed lemon juice, Maraschino liqueur, and Blue Curacao.

I know the recipe because along with their wood-bindered menu, our server also gave us a nifty looking event card with details. Call me old school, but I still LOVE something printed that I can hold in my hand.

Of course, I had to order the Blue Martini (the hubs opted for a cranberry juice as he is training for his 13th marathon), and frankly it was just so fun sipping a creative cocktail in a vintage glass in a dim and mellow speakeasy-style bar in Providence that reminds me of an awesome lounge I might have stumbled upon in the cap city in the 90’s (when the best way to find a swell nite spot was via word of mouth).

The service was friendly and consistent. Two people checked in on us whilst we were there and one of them was extremely helpful suggesting drinks to someone seated next to us who was unsure about what to order from their intriguing selection of sips. And if you want a nosh, there’s a page of snacks including chips, nuts and a cheese plate.

New to us (they opened for biz in 2020), TWR is a wonderful spot for drinks and clinks in PVD with your significant other or the people in your inner circle who are always complaining that they never go anywhere anymore (hellooooooo, Gen Xers).

Find The Walnut Room at 245 South Main Street in Providence. They are open 4pm to 1am Tuesday thru Friday, 6pm to 1am on Saturdays.

As always, if you end up cheersing there with your s.o. or your bestie after reading this, please let them know you were inspired by Patty J and PattyJ.com.
