We Had Breakfast At This Darling Diner In Coventry, Rhode Island

the other day in Coventry (Rhode Island)

My husband is a runner and he is in the process of running every street in Rhode Island which is how he originally happened upon Rick & Dee’s in Coventry, Rhode Island last year.

This whimsical, old school 50’s style diner on Knotty Oak Road is beloved among current and former residents and has been open for at least 20-25 years, but I had no idea about it until the hubs ran by and took a photo with the Elvis figure at the entrance. (Others out front include Betty Boop, a gas station attendant next to a gas pump, a Texaco sign, a waitress holding a tray, and a 50’s guy reminiscent of The Fonz. Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the vintage car sign — is it a Thunderbird? — up on the roof.)

We went for breakfast and thankfully got there around 9am because after we sat down, it got really busy. Speaking of hours, they are open daily from 6:30am to 11am, so set your phone alarm. (That’s probably one of the reasons it took us so long to get there because we generally go for weekend brunch around 12noon.)

This little diner has both counter (approx 8 stools) and booth seating. We were lucky enough to score a booth near the door, hooray!

More great news? Their menu is pretty darn extensive. They also had a daily specials one sheet on Sunday with even more options. Whether you’re an omelette or classic egg brekkie fan or you lean more towards pancakes and French toast, they’ve got you. Ultimately, you’re biggest stresser is going to be deciding what to order.

I got the eggs on cornbread with a side of breakfast potatoes and the hubs ordered 3 pancakes with strawberries. Psssst, I really like that you can get 1, 2 or 3 pancakes depending on how hungry you are on any given morning.

My coffee was good and fresh, and our wait person would pop over periodically to refill. Our food came out quickly (at another RI restaurant which shall remain nameless we recently waited almost a half hour for our food, sigh) and everything was delightful. (See photos of our plates above.)
