RI Style Diaries: Meet Our New Fav Designer Wes Gordon

Here I am with Brianna and my old friend Caryn Fleming. (See the Pix Below.)

Caryn and I go way back (We worked together when I used to sell designer.) and we both live for beautiful clothes and great style. I was super psyched when she invited me to the Wes Gordon Trunk Show this past weekend at the famous Mitchells, in Westport, CT, where she now works. Mitchells is high end shopping at its absolute best! They do everything right. You can grab a latte or a bagel and browse Celine bags, Prada shoes, Hermes, diamond jewelry and (this past weekend) Wes Gordon's recent Collections. If it's gorgeous and well made, you'll find it at Mitchells. True Story: I could've spent 25K there in under 15 minutes. *Sigh*

Now let me talk about Wes Gordon, featured in this month's Vogue as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist. For starters, he studied design at the prestigious Saint Martins in London and interned at both Oscar De La Renta and Tom Ford. Impressive! Even more impressive - this Southern gentleman, who now resides in NYC, could not have been nicer or more generous with his time. (Not going to lie, he is also extremely handsome.) He walked me thru every single piece in the trunk show, which included items from his Fall 2014 Collection as well as Resort and Spring/Summer 2015. I wanted to buy one of everything!

His design aesthetic? He calls it 'Minimalism with soul'. Yes, his clothes have clean lines (One of his inspirations is one of my personal style icons, the late Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.), but he adds feminine flourishes (like lace or that perfect amount of sexy slit) and unexpected touches (like the sheer tweed in an A-line skirt or the hand painted print on a muted pink denim jacket). This keeps everything fresh and special. I also adore how his clothes are, as he says, 'luxurious but not precious'. In other words, they're meant to be worn and enjoyed, not archived in your closet as a museum or show piece.

And btw, Wes himself has phenomenal personal style. Check out the pop of blue - aka, the neat socks - he wore on Saturday, along with highlights from the Trunk Show, including 'The Metal Dress' seen on a mannequin in these pix and worn by Anne Hathaway at the red carpet premiere of her latest movie, Interstellar:

Watch this video pop of one of our favorite looks from Wes Gordon Fall 2014. Keep your eyes open for the amazing heels too, part of Wes' collaboration with Manolo Blahnik. #KillerHeels #WatchOurVideo

Here's Wes signing my November 2014 Vogue. He was also a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2012 and a recipient of the uber prestigious Swarovski Collective Sponsorship twice - in Spring 2013 and Spring 2014. #Wow

Famous Faces Who Wear Wes: Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jaime King, Julianna Marguilies, Reese Witherspoon, Emily Blunt, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mad Men's Christina Hendricks, The First Lady, Michelle Obama and many more
