#Selfies And Clay Masks

Lately, it seems as though we're being bombarded with close-ups of bare faced celebrities, also known as the #nomakeup or #iwokeuplikethis selfie. First and foremost, there was this pix that JLO uploaded to Instagram in the last few days. I'm pretty sure that you've seen it as it's gone VIRAL, but let's marvel at her 40+ perfection one more time:

Yes, she looks flawless, but before you slip into compare-and-despair mode, remember JLO probably spends thousands of dollars and hours on products and treatments.

And even Madonna is getting into the act. The longtime exercise fanatic and vegan has recently come out with a line of skin care (aptly) called MDNA SKIN. It's only sold in Japan, but that doesn't stop M herself from regularly posting pix like this on Facebook:

Would it sell in the US? Who the heck knows? I'd definitely try it in a heartbeat if it were available here. There's just something about a clay mask that makes you feel like you're doing something absolutely fantastic for your face. Probably because clay is synonymous with de-greasing, detoxifying, and purifying the skin, which all sounds lovely, doesn't it? I mean we all want purified clear, flawless skin.

With that in mind, here are two of my favorite clay masks that you won't have to travel to Japan for:

1. Rosehip & Clay Mint Mask from RI's own Farmaesthetics

This one is fabulous as a mask or a spot treatment for breakouts. Just be prepared to  get a little dirty, because you have to mix the powder (from the old time-y glass bottle) with water to make a paste to apply to your face. A big benefit of the powder? It lasts and lasts. I'm still using the same bottle from last August.

2. SUPERMUD By GLAMGLOW

Pricey (at $69 a jar) but definitely worth it. My only criticism is that there should be less packaging and more product. Once you rip open the elaborate packaging and finally get to that white and silver jar inside, you find that it's tiny. I burned through my first jar in about a month. Bummer. (Since then I've learned to conceive.) But it does work! Especially if you find yourself drinking more than 1-2 cups of coffee a day and little to no water - That always, always does a number on my skin.

These two treatments might even make you feel good enough about your skin to go bare-faced in a #selfie, who knows?
