C'Mon Get Healthy: 3 Short Cuts To Look And Feel Better Fast

Yeah, I've done a lot in the name of good health and looking good. (See the photos above of me drinking raw aloe vera from Organic Avenue on the streets of NYC last fall.) I like to think of it as my having tried anything and everything, so that you don't have to. That being said, here are three super easy (and entirely pleasant) things you can co-opt right now to look and feel better this Spring - It'll be here soon enough. I swear!

1. Do A Shot Every Morning.

A probiotic shot that is. I take a StraightShot from GoodBelly every morning. 2 words - Quick and Painless. When I don't, I definitely see a difference. I used to feel crummy all the time, but once I started taking these, I noticed how my daily stomach pains and bloating disappeared. Also, some studies have shown that taking probiotics can improve both your skin and your mood. I think that's what's called a win-win.

Tip: If you prefer a sweeter taste, try the Mango, Blueberry or Strawberry flavored StraightShots. (And, if you're not a fan of yogurt, this is a perfect option.)

2. Get Over It.

Your fear of fat of course. Repeat after me - Fat is not a bad thing. As a matter of fact, if you don't get enough of it, you'll notice how dull your hair, skin and nails look all the time. But before you reach for a luminizer (a big beauty trend this year btw) or a glossy nail polish, start first by incorporating 1/2 an avocado into your breakfast, lunch or dinner every single day - Phenomenal with eggs, as a mayo substitute on your sandwich bread or as part of a salad. Or you could just have it as a snack...You're welcome.

PS - Guacamole doesn't count. 😯

3. Jump On The Coconut Oil Bandwagon. Like Now.

Yeah, it seems like everyone's pushing coconut oil these days, but they're not wrong - one thing you need to start doing pronto is oil pulling (aka, taking a tablespoon of the coconut oil in your mouth and swishing it around for anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes). It's easy and best of all, it works. True story: Last time I was at my dentist's for a cleaning, my hygienist complimented me on how great my teeth looked, very little plaque she said. I mean can I get a HOORAY? She said something about continuing to do whatever I was doing - And that would be (drum roll please) oil pulling.

Tip: I use Dr. Bronner's. And I've read about people swishing twice a day, but honestly, I don't have the patience or time for that in the am. I usually do it at night before bed and it's still pretty effective. And, when  I'm done, I spit the coconut oil out in the garbage, not in the sink. (Pretty, I know.)  Because it will clog the drain and nobody has time for that kind of nonsense.
