10 Calming Things This Rhode Island Yoga Instructor Is Doing While Isolating At Home

As we all try to make the best of the current situation, it’s important to create a new sense of normal. It gives focus, balance, structure, and some sense of predictability, all while helping ease anxiety. Here’s what a typical day for me looks like for me as I blend new with more familiar patterns and habits.

  1. Not looking at the big picture and taking one day at a time.

  2. Following guidelines of the health department and governor.

  3. I decided to only go out to the grocery store once a week. If I don’t need anything, I’ll extend it to two weeks. I’m staying put.

  4. Keeping things tidy in my house and continuing to cook wholesome, nutritious meals, which is important for immunity.

  5. Staying current with the news, but not letting it take over every minute of my day.

  6. I call my father every day. (He’s in the middle of the crisis in Italy.)

  7. Sometimes I like to have QVC on in the background. I’m not shopping, but it helps distract me when things feel too quiet.

  8. Staying committed to my home yoga practice. I practice at 9pm to help me relax and release tension so I can have a restful sleep. (Sleep is so important to your immune system!)

  9. After yoga I write in my journal. I’ve been journaling since college. I find it very meditative.

  10. I pray before going to bed. My faith is very important to me, in good times and bad.
