I know it’s been a pretty popular trend whilst we have been quaranting (and dealing with the dreaded “quarantine fatigue''), but I never really got caught up in the whole bread making thing (sourdough or otherwise) that so many people have been mad posting about on Facebook and Insta. Honestly, I’d much rather eat bread than bake it.

Since the shutdown, we have thankfully been able to get our hands on some Seven Stars bread via our weekly meal deliveries from Feast & Fettle, a definite bright spot in all of this. I mean, even those in our quarantine crew who had vowed previously to be ✅ done with carbs (no names) have been only too happy to break (their Cheddar, Olive or Country Round) bread with us.

In the back of my mind, though, I have been wondering when they would be reopening and what that might look like. They have apparently been hosting these outdoor pop-ups (customers could pre-order online and then pick up at the stands) and also giving away something like 7K (yesssss, 7,000!) loaves to needy Rhode Islanders.

Well, the word just came down that as of this week they are open once again in Providence — on Broadway and Hope Street — and Rumford. Ecstatic yet not at all surprised to hear that they scored perfectly (100%) last week on the state COVID inspection of their updated-for-doing-biz-during-the-pandemic processes and procedures. All orders must be done in advance online which is understandably the new norm these days.

But what about Cranston?

Their much anticipated Reservoir Ave. location opened last year and Cranstonites (Cranstonians?) were beyond thrilled to have a Seven Stars Bakery in the 02920. The parking lot was jamming, from morning until night, and more oft than not, you had to wait on line to get your coffee drink of choice, hot or iced tea, go-to pastry, or sandwich. Yours truly was in line there at least 2 or 3 times of week throughout last fall and winter.

The Cranston cafe does have a cute patio that I think could be expanded in preparation for when that location opens its doors again. (For the record, the SSB site is saying soon.) I mean, al fresco everything (breakfast, lunch, brunch, and din din) is going to be more important than ever this summer. Just throwing this out there because I, for one, will definitely be living and blogging about the patio life in the coming months.
