The Marvelous Place In Middletown For Plant Based Takeout You Probably Haven’t Heard About

It seems like so many familiar faces — from Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Iron Man (Robt Downey Jr.) to Gisele Bundchen (SUPERmodel, author and wife of TB) and Ellen Pompeo (lead actress from “Grey’s Anatomy” which one of my nieces is apparently binge watching right now) — are saying see ya to meat and dairy. Now, I’m not a vegan, but I no longer eat meat or poultry and as a result I am forever on the lookout for tasty meat-free eats outside Providence and Pawtucket.

Sometimes I’m out and about in the Newport area (or South County, or the East Bay) and have to settle for the appetizer section of a menu or a garden salad along with tons of bread. And don’t even get me started about restaurants that insist on adding bacon to anything and everything. That being said, thrilled to spill the beans today about an under-the-radar spot in Middletown where you can get carryout or (depending on your location) door-to-door delivery.

Sprout and Lentil Vegan Kitchen is up the road from another fave The Power Of Juice at 796 Aquidneck Avenue. You should also know that it’s situated in a strip of stores behind another strip of storefronts, which means, unless you’re looking for it specifically, it’s highly likely you’re gonna miss it which would be such a shame.

I met the owner, vegan chef Carmen Foy who has studied at both Le Cordon Bleu and CIA (that’s Culinary Institute of America), last winter and was immediately impressed with the variety of eats and treats she had cooked up. She had a number of snacks (from prepacked ones to freshly made cupcakes with frosting), soups (we bought a large mason jar of her lentil soup and it was outstanding and in case you wondered, not at all salty), sandwiches, and burgers. Speaking of which, I can’t think of a better time to jump on the meatless burger train. The ones available these days are quite yummy and so many are such great dupes that they could fool even the most enthusiastic carnivore in your world.

Everything’s available to carry out too, so it’s the perfect way to give yourself the gift of a night or two off from having to stress over what to cook for dinner, not to mention the utter drudgery of clean up. Me? I’m definitely going back for soup (pretty sure there’s an incentive for bringing back your empty jars) and more first chance I get.

*Sprout And Lentil Vegan Kitchen is located at 796 Aquidneck Ave, Unit 3, in Middletown, RI. You can also catch them this spring and summer at the Saturday Aquidneck Farmers Market.

As always, if you go, please let them know that you heard about them here on PattyJ.com.
