Time For A Trip To See (And Shop) The Scenic Storefront Of These Iconic Artisans In West Kingston

They are “the big get” right now on social.

Suddenly everyone and their next door neighbor has gone a little daffy and is either talking about or posing amongst daffodils, including our old friends over at Peter Pots Pottery in West Kingston…

Sure, you could use their Pint Pot as a home-y vase for yours, as in the pic below, but it’s also a great piece for jumpstarting your collection for everyday use.

Their mugs are also essential — and a huge part of my morning (coffee) and night (tea) beverage rotation.

I mean, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought mugs and things from Rhode Island-based eateries and the like only to find out later that they aren’t even made in state.

True Story: I mulled over all their coffee mugs and cups for a long while before finally deciding on their Grandfather Mugs which are solid (you cannot knock these babies over, something all my fellow klutzes out there in the world will appreciate) and sturdy yet still comfy to hold, just right for those of us who are decidely not fans of dainty variety drinkware.

Granted they are a tad pricey at about $24 a pop.

I will tell you, however, that they have held up quite well and still look close to brand new.

Furthermore, if like me you are looking to support local Rhode Island businesses always (not just during the pandemic), you simply cannot beat crafted by hand stoneware from a company started by two RISD alum back in 1948.

Speaking of the RI School of Design, you’ll be intrigued further to know that their creations have been exhibited there as well as at MOMA since they started out in Providence in ‘48. (Yep, their first brick and mortar location was in the capital city.)

And you can absolutely hop online and order some Peter Pots Pottery from their site, but it’s a lot more fun to motor over to their rustic, cabin-like space, situated next to an actual babbling brook in the woods of West Kingston.

Their cozy stone-front shop in WK is indeed something to see. Now, I’m not someone who dreams of log cabin life, but their whole set-up is pretty swell.

It’s like something out of a Hallmark Channel movie wherein the heroine leaves her big city life to run her family’s business in the country and well, you can guess the rest.
