The Providence Restaurant For Incredible Comfort Food With Your Favorite People

Been seeing a lot of my online friends checking in from this brand new restaurant downtown, so of course I had to get over there this week.

The owner and proprietor of Kin, which specializes in Southern comfort food and is located on Washington Street, is Julia Broome, a Providence native and fellow Classical High School alum. (We spoke briefly last night when my great friend Karen — another terrific person from my Nordstrom Providence Place daze — and I popped in for some din din.)

Now truth be told I’ve been trying to eat more salads, but I also live for really great comfort food like biscuits, potatoes, pasta, anything fried, and the like. (A lotta people might say that, but I’m someone who irl will eat all the carbs.)

Also, like me, my glam friend Karen doesn’t eat meat.

All things considered (it’s a lot, I know), the Kin menu actually turned out to be pretty easy for us to navigate and ultimately end up ADORING.

The two of us ordered lemonades and split a bunch of small plates and sides including: their Bucket of Biscuits (the honey butter was an epiphany, an outstanding add-on to the slightly crispy and substantial-without-being-too -heavy biscuits), Farm Salad (super fresh and the citrus-y dressing was a delight), Garlic Mashed (an absolute must, sooo delish), and finally, the Baked Mac & Cheese (a slightly spicy and welcome update on a classic dish).

For those who do partake of chicken or beef, you’ll find plenty of plates at Kin to split with your besties on your next Thursday, Friday or Saturday night out in PVD with your besties this summer.

The portions are generous: Karen and I split the salad and everything else and we both took home some leftovers at the end of the meal.

Also, I LOVE that they have outdoor seating and that the doors and windows to the entire space were open last night. (Please don’t hate or @ me but yours truly is still leaning on open air dining this summah.)

In closing, highly recommend, get there before they are too booked and busy — and before all the local food bloggers start uploading, posting IG Stories, and TikTok-ing.
