These Candy Makers Have A Sweet New Space In Providence

My Winter 2021 Photo Of The Anchor Toffee Storefront

There’s a lot happening at the Farm Fresh RI hub over in the Valley neighborhood in Providence!

First off, The Providence Flea will be starting up again at the beginning of February.

I’ve already blogged about the marvelous New Harvest Coffee & Spirits cafe.

Moreover Tallulah’s looks to be popping up there in the not too distant future as well. (The sign’s lit and I spotted a talkout window yesterday, that’s all I’m saying.)

Yesterday I motored over to check out Robin Hollow Flowers for myself (several people had been urging me to go, and who wouldn’t love being surround by beaucoup beautiful blooms on a chilly January day in RI?), but they were on winter break, so I ended up next door at the Anchor Toffee.

This family owned candy company, open since 2014, specializes in handmade butter toffee, crafted from a recipe that dates back more than 100 years ago.

I mean, talk about tradition and a commitment to quality!

And they were very nice to me when I wandered in yesterday afternoon, unsure if they were open to the public or not. (The Sims Avenue shopfront is their 2nd. They also have a place on Bowen’s which I’ve never been to, am sure it’s mobbed during the summah months, however.)

So, they are busy caramelizing, cooling, and boxing all their toffee leathernecks (their spin on toffee turtles which is also a nod to the grandfathers of the husband and wife team behind the brand who were both in the Marines).

That being said, they do indeed have retail hours for fans of tippity top shelf sweets. (Their gift boxed toffee has a certain clean, minimalist and vaguely French appeal that I’m obsessed with after seeing it in person on Thursday.)

You won’t get this level of care or the taste experience anywhere else, and definitely NOT from a purchase from the candy display at the register of a big box or chain drugstore.

In addition to their signature Almond Butter Toffee (which you’ve probably run across at local shops like The Hen House in Chepachet, Barrington Books, or Edgewood Cheese Shop), they also offer nut and dairy free versions as well as a coffee flavor and seasonal varities during the fall and holiday.

Find Anchor Toffee at 10 Sims Avenue in Providence, RI.
