The Gansett Cafe Where You Can Get Amazing Poke Bowls & More

That moment when you’re having a car picnic outside a hidden gem in South County (RI), digging into their amazing poke bowls…

Food news flash, Gansett Poke has reopened after their annual winter break!

Full Disclosure: I am infatuated with this takeout spot on Boston Neck Road, technically the Bonnet Shores section of Narragansett. (Everything I know about Bonnet Shores is based on memories from when I was a kid, when two of my brothers were at URI and renting off campus houses in that neighborhood.)

If I had to guess, I would say a lot of URI students do carryout — I wish there had been something like it when I was living in Kingston back in the day (that would be the late 1980’s).

But back to GP and I don’t mean Gwyneth Paltrow, lololol. (Speaking Gwyneth, even she is watching the Pam & Tommy miniseries on HULU. Maybe I should fire up that subscription once again?)

Frankly, I cannot say enough terrific things about this sweet little brick and mortar and the marvelous owner.

First, similar to a lot of other local Rhody eateries, they started with a cart (only theirs had/has SOLAR power).

Next, let’s dip into their scrumptious eats because that’s why you’re here, amirite?

Hands down they have the most extensive menu of options for crafting the perfect poke bowl that I have personally seen on the local scene: everything from hard boiled eggs, avo mash, seaweed salad, pineapple chunks, and kale or mixed greens to sesame seeds, crispy garlic or wontons, and 5 (!!!) different kinds of sauces or dressings.

As far I protein, I opted for the organic tofu, but if that doesn’t float your boat (beach blanket poke bowls every summer, right?), you get salmon, shrimp, ahi tuna, or chicken.

Everything was incredibly fresh and yes, their portions are text book generous — did I mention we were starving because it was way past lunch?

Believe you me, you will not find a better bowl.
