The Pup Friendly Beach In South County Where You Can Take Your Dog

I was on the beach in Gansett last week — another mild February day — and pet paw-rents were out and about in a big way with their dogs, mostly off leash.

If you’re looking for a pup friendly (albeit rocky but that’s par for the course here in Lil Rhody, amirite?) shore in North Kingstown, a good friend recently looped me in on a spot called Compass Rose Beach, also known as the sea plane beach at Quonset. (Full disclosure, she takes her grand-dog there all the time.)

If you don’t live in NK or aren’t acquainted with someone who does, it may NOT be on your radar.

Named for a compass that had been painted on the ground near the airport during WWII (pilots who were taking off could look down and double check that the plane’s compass was functioning properly), mostly worn away at this point btw, it’s a paw-fect place for strolling with your 4-legged best friend.

Regular visitors LOVE that there are poop bag stations.

And a Porta Potty for the humans.

Also, a picnic area and some sweet views of the Bay and the Jamestown Bridge.
