The Charming Charlestown Store For An Afternoon Of Christmas Shopping

We’re shouting SHOP LOCAL from the rooftops this time of year, but if you’re unsure about where to start, I have a primo suggestion.

Simple Pleasures in Charlestown (Rhode Island) is a shopper’s paradise. We’re talking two floors of marvelous furniture, gift-y items (yes, that includes ornaments), accessories, and more…all from New England designers and makers. Most of which you won’t find anywhere else in the OS (that’s Ocean State).

Also: Anyone who lives for the Coastal NE or farmhouse aesthetic will not be disappointed. They have an ocean of darling merchandise — from plates, napkins and napkin rings, mugs and glassware to lamps, nautical pillows, rugs, and assorted antiques.

They even have clothing, jewelry (hellooooo), and whatnot — if you happen to find yourself in need of something to wear to a holiday party or on that post Christmas trip to Florida or the Caribbean, look no further.

Block off at least an hour to browse this space. I mean, some have been known to spend an entire afternoon, lol, and I get that.

As a retail veteran (who was a manager at Nordstrom Providence for about 13 years), I can say I do appreciate the care and time that goes into merchandising an independently owned store like this. (Psssst…It’s a lot.)

And regulars do indeed gush about how impressively Simple Pleasures is set up.

Find Simple Pleasures at 5000 South County Trail in Charlestown, Rhode Island. They are open 7 days, from 9am to 5pm.
