Matunuck Is Getting Merry With A Holiday Stroll And A Tree Lighting

You’re probably already well acquainted with Matunuck Oyster Bar (watch Perry Raso’s Ted Talk from the very first Ted X Providence at the Columbus Theater on Broadway, so inspiring), Theater By The Se, & Ocean Mist.

The Iconic Ocean Mist in Matunuck, Rhode Island

And have fond memories of Summer days and nights at one or all three.

And me? I’ve referred to it as Rhode Island’s Malibu (to clarify…I mean Malibu circa the 1970’s and 80’s when it was more of a low key surfer’s paradise).

But Matunuck, the picturesque and still quaint oceanfront village in South Kingstown, isn’t just for the milder months, however.

I say this because this Thursday night (December 7th) starting at 5pm they will be hosting their 5th annual Holiday Stroll featuring: sensational live music, festive sips and light bites (regular readers already know how much we LOVE ❤️ Surfside Coffee and Matunuck Pizza), local makers (load up on casual or surf wear for you or the kiddies, or grab a sweatshirt from The Sundance Company for your favorite friend because they will live in it this winter), raffles (one of the prizes is a stay at the Admiral Dewey Inn which has been completely updated, I toured it last year), and the Christmas Tree 🎄 lighting at 7pm sharp.

You might even catch a glimpse of the big man himself (aka, Santa Claus) who I hear is a serious fan of Matunuck (by the way, the name comes from the Native American word for lookout and the village does indeed boast views of Point Judith and Block Island). He apparently says he’s traveled all over the globe and he prefers walking the beautiful — and super clean — beaches year-round over all others.

Need another reasons to take a Rhode trip over to Matunuck this month?

Well, Clark Farms over on Commodore Perry Highway looks completely marvelous right now. (See photos above.)

Please believe me when I tell you that this is their best year yet as far as decorations and overall Christmas ambiance. It’s a veritable xmas wonderland; there are all kinds of lovely displays with ornaments, wreaths, and ribbons that are sure to impress everyone on your shopping list.

So, you might want to pop over BEFORE the Stroll as they are open until 5pm daily.
