We Had Breakfast At This Marvelous Coffeehouse In Middletown, Rhode Island

Gotta Love The Banner Out Front That Reads: “Don’t Panic! The Line Moves Fast!”

The hubs and I just stay-cation-ed in Middletown at The Pell (such a dreamy hotel and restaurant, check it out if you haven’t already) and we stumbled on a fantastic coffee house.

It’s so good that it’s worth driving the milled pavement that is that part of Aquidneck Avenue right now.

We were greeted and waited on at the counter immediately, always a great sign.

Yes, if you’re not already in-the-know, Custom House Coffee is rustic and cozy comfy — with plenty of seating including a leather couch (there’s even a Central Perk Sign over it if you want to channel your inner Ross or Joey) — and also has a huge menu of hot and cold drinks, everything from lattes (they roast their own beans which is kind of a big deal, you can take a bag or three home with you) and teas to different cold brews and a frig full of Fully Rooted juices and kombucha.

The food? It will wow you. We spotted mini spinach pies from their neighbor June Loves English Bakery (I’ve blogged about them many times) and popovers from Knead as well as a huge assortment of the usual cafe fare (muffins, scones, bagels, crumb cake, and whatnot).

They also have wraps and other lunch type of eats.

Come fall, folks line up for their Pumpkin Cold Brew.

Regulars also go gaga over their (cheekily named) Zombie Killer Iced Coffee, bagged coffees (again, they roast their own), the Dirty Chai, and those baked goods.

I had a London Fog and a muffin that tasted v. carrot cake-y (can’t remember the name); both were excellent.
