My Bestie Tried The Brand New Japanese Deli In Downtown Providence

When the office foodie says “you have to try the new place” grab your coat and make a beeline, you’re in for a treat! The new place being Maruichi Japanese Food & Deli.

Sushi was the goal for this midweek lunch.

Maruichi opened it’s doors at 113 Washington Street this past Saturday (the site was formerly Rory's).

The plan was to grab some sushi and come right back to work but there was so much to explore!

While the ready to eat sushi is right by the entrance, all the appealing, colorful displays drew me further inside.

I found myself at the cafe and ordered the Chicken Katsu Don.

It didn’t take long before I was able to dive into the freshly made bowl.

It was a tasty explosion of flavors and textures including pickled ginger, sumptuous egg, and tender chicken.

Also, I tried a korokke, a yummy fried potato cake (thanks, Simon for the recommendation).

Coffee and tea are also being served at the cafe.

Seating is available on site, the tables and a window bar filled up quickly.

We sat near towering displays of Pocky and soda in a myriad of flavors.

As we savored our meals, I watched shoppers fill their baskets with all kinds of snacks and groceries including sushi-grade fish, noodles and a whole section of ready made desserts.

I look forward to exploring all these items another day!
