If you’re a fan of ghost stories, Ryan Muphy’s American Horror Story series, or you just want to be privy to some juicy tales steeped in Rhody history over the last few centuries, then the Providence Ghost Tour is an absolute must do.

Taking the tour this time of year (as opposed to say in October) means you won’t have to get all bundled up in scarves, sweaters, and knit hats for the approximately 2 mile walk around the East Side.

The route itself is well lit. You will, however, want to pull out your sensible footwear for this walking tour because of the uneven sidewalks and steep hills, definitely not the time to try to channel Stevie Nicks or Misty Day (circa American Horror Story seasons 3 and 8) in platforms boots or flow-y shawls. Highly recommend leaving any ethereal or period dress to the PGT guides.

The dilemma here is that I obviously don’t want to reveal all the secrets of the tour. For the record, there are many! To be honest, I was surprised by much of it. I mean, as someone who attended public school in Providence during the late 70’s and 80’s, feel as though I learned next to nothing about local history and legends.

Our guide was thoroughly engaging, well informed, and fun. Of course, both Poe and HP Lovecraft were mentioned (that’s a given, right?) but there are so many other tales that will seriously change the way you look at certain spots around the capital city.

Also, the tour is different every single time. So, if you’ve taken it before, your next experience will include stories you have NOT heard previously.
