Pancakes And Cawfee Or Why I Heart This Classic Providence Diner

Time For Some Cawfee Tauwk (As a Rhode Island native, I’m embracing my RI accent 110% these days.)

A PVD Lunch Car

Sometimes you just need some diner coffee, pancakes, and sunny side up eggs.

The hubs and I motored over to the West Side Diner (in my old neighborhood, I grew up a few blocks away) for a nosh — and it was bustling!

It had been a while since I’d been back to this hopping PVD destination for casual eats.

The booths in the front part of the restaurant (the actual dining car) were, as per usual, full. Darn!

Thankfully we got seated in their (and much needed because…see above) back room with local art up on the walls. PS — It too filled up quickly after we sat down, started studying the menu. Next time we want the front dining car because of …that 1950’s aesthetic.

The hubs and I indulged in some classic breakfast food and drink. (I was pleasantly surprised to see that tofu scramble on the menu. Meat-less dishes have, after all, become pretty darn mainstream.)

And their short stack is a nice add-on if you aren’t feeling famished enough to polish off a full order of hot cakes. In other words, get some pancakes.

Regulars adore the vintage vibes (the exterior and the front counter and booths) as well as the French toast, omelettes, hash browns (I would eat hash browns every single day if I could), and daily specials.

Find the West Side Diner at 1380 Westminster Street in Providence, Rhode Island.
