These Rhode Island Cafe Are Going From From Espresso To Espresso Martinis
Looking for a night spot that swaps espresso shots, lattes, and mugs of hot tea for espresso martinis after dark?
Coffee shops turned cocktail lounges are having a moment in Rhode Island right now.
We’re talking craft cocktails or vino with a little twist, usually a relaxed cafe vibe.
And if you’re really lucky, you may find yourself at one that offers pastries to nibble on or a small plates menu.
The one, in my mind, that started it all would have to be Main Street Coffee in East Greenwich, famous for their excellent espresso martinis and a dessert selection that will knock your socks off. Ideal for winding down with a few friends or a casual date. Maybe stop in after a show at The Odeum?

Also in East Greenwich, neighborhood favorite DRIP on South County Trail transforms into a lounge on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Have you ever bean, lol?
Up until recently, one of my favorite bakeries, Whisk Me Away on Harris Avenue in Providence, was turning into a sassy lounge called Night Time a few nights out of the week. But unfortunately since Whisk has decided to close up shop, I believe that sadly Night Time is no more.
Providence friends, don’t despair, though, because you still have New Harvest Coffee & Spirits (open until 8pm 5 nites a week), new kid on the block Cafe Italia (for dessert themed tinis), and Riff Raff Bookstore & Bar (where you can enjoy a generous pour while you pour over your book purchases).
Society just opened in East Providence (their 3 other locations are all in Mass.) too, and they definitely bring a more clubby vibe, especially with their the sleek, modern exterior. (My husband literally said, “Is that a club?” when he saw a photo online.) They shift into night mode every Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Even the quieter and more rustic parts of Lil Rhody are doing it!
I mean, let’s not forget Josephine’s in Greenville. If you don’t live in the vicinity, you may not know about this enchanting coffee shop by day that converts into a swell lounge meets dessert bar on Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm to 11pm.
A newer member to this club would have to be The Coffee Bar in West Greenwich. They pivot to a martini bar every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. (Can’t wait to check them out soon!)
At Audrey’s (Before #RHORI)
I can’t wrap this up without mentioning Audrey’s Coffee House & Lounge in South Kingstown of course which is open until 10pm on Friday evenings - and is featured prominently in the tv show absolutely everyone is talking about these days, The Real Housewives of Rhode Island (because of course co-owner Ashley Iaconetti is one of the #RHORI, and she, her husband Jared, and the coffee house are all feautured).
These are the hybrids we never knew we couldn’t live without!
As always, if you go to any of these establishments after reading this, please let them know you were inspired by Patty J and PattyJ.com.
