Let me confess something right now.
I used to be a little - No! a lot - intimidated by makeup artists.
Maybe it's me, but I used to feel like when I sat in those swivel chairs at counter X in any department store, they were judging me.
Me with my problem - sometimes ruddy - skin. And my clumsily applied lipgloss. (I'll stop there. I could go on.)
And them. With their seemingly glowing skin, perfectly applied lipstick and cool minimalist black uniforms.
Luckily, I got over that.
Mostly because I met so many fantastic, talented and friendly makeup artists during my years in retail who never made me feel like a dork. Ever. One of those awesome artists is my former co-worker and friend Jenny DiMucci. She's a wife, mom and makeup artist with her own studio called Twinkle & Smooch Beauty, based right in Cranston, RI. I just LOVE her beauty philosophy about wanting to make all her clients still look like themselves, only more glam (in varying degrees). One of my biggest fears is having my makeup done and ending up looking unrecognizable, but I know that that won't happen with Jenny.
Jenny works in her studio, but is also extremely mobile, traveling frequently to do makeup for brides and wedding parties as well as girlfriend parties in her clients' homes. She took time out from making all her clients look stunning though to talk to me. Watch our video blog and find out some of her tips and tricks that anyone can co-opt to look instantly prettier right now.
Music - We asked Jenny about her 'theme song' and not surprisingly, it's anything by her husband, accomplished and well-known singer Michael DiMucci. Check him out.
Coffee or Tea - Jenny's a coffee drinker for sure and is partial to Starbucks, Garden City
