We Had Lunch On This Cute Patio In Westerly Over The Weekend And It Was Lovely

This wasn’t my first time at the Bridge Restaurant in Westerly. I’d actually been there many over the last I-don’t-know-how-many years for lunches, dinners, and whatnot. This was, however, my first time back since the start of everything earlier this year. I’ve also been eyeing all their Instagram updates from their patio that overlooks the Pawcatuck River that runs through town the last few months and it all looked so great. With all that in mind, when Sunday’s weather ended up being sunny and clear, I hopped on Open Table and made an early afternoon reservation for a table on that patio.

Let me just say that I was pretty impressed with how organized they were (in terms of seating us and getting us set up) and the marvelous service we received while lunching there. Yours truly was further wowed by the fact that they give you a little paper bag (to put your mask in while you’re eating and drinking) and an antibacterial wipe. What can I say? I have been known to be something of a germaphobe.

Now I spied quite a few heaters situated in that space, but…When it comes to outdoor eating in November in Rhode Island, the important thing to do, if you want to avoid having to schlep a blanket along (umm, awkward), is bundling up. That bulky sweater you never wear around the house, the one that’s smushed in the corner of your closet? Throw it on. The scarf from Anthro that you gifted yourself a few Christmases ago? Add it on. And don’t forget a knit beanie. (PS - Some sort of insulated top, pant or both can’t hurt either. I may be investing in some this week, just so I can keep the outdoor dining tour going.)

We kicked the meal off with hot tea, a must for al-fresco-ing it in the fall. In addition, I was pleased to see a good number of meat-free options on their lunch and brunch menu. Ultimately, we went with polenta and eggs (for me) and a veggie burger and ceasar salad (for the hubs), both of which were thoughtfully prepared and flavorful. Keep the hot drinks coming and you’ll find the whole thing entirely pleasant and enjoyable.

It’s a swell way to give yourself a break from the sameness and monotony of at home dining and Netflix binges in front of the telly. Overall it’s a charming casual foood experience in a town that I feel is so underrated as far as exploring RI goes, but that another post for another time. (For the record, I did blog back in 2017 about how Westerly often gets overlooked.)
