We Ordered Takeout From This Iconic PVD Bakery & It Was Terrific

Best known probably for their scrumptious fruit tarts and cakes like carrot and tiramisu, Pastiche is the place where locals and Rhody transplants alike steal away to on any given afternoon to treat themselves to something sweet.

The good news is that after being shuttered since March, the folks there (who are also celebrating 35 years in biz this year) have opened their doors once again for takeout.

We gave it a whirl early yesterday afternoon before the storm hit and thought I’d share details.

First off, I ordered via my I-Phone and it was a completely seamless and stress free experience. Theirs is an easy to access site with no tech-related annoyances whatsoever. (I’ve had my share of issues trying to place online orders elsewhere over these last few months and it can be maddening. Help me, help you…)

Now, if you want a whole cake or tart for your crew, you will have to plan ahead and get your request in at least a day in advance.

If, by chance, you’re looking for a sampling of different treats to brighten up your next al fresco dinner on your patio or indoors at your kitchen island, you can — as we did with our pieces of fruit tart and tiramisu — go the cake by the slice route (some other options include their choclate mousse, chocolate layer, coconut cake, and lemon mousse) and maybe add some cookies in as well.

And, are you ready for this?

You can even add extra sides of their whipped cream or raspberry sauce to your order. This is especially helpful if there’s a “Sally” (a character that the late Nora Ephron who co-wrote the movie When Harry Met Sally modeled after herself btw) in your pod who always orders desserts with the cream or sauce on the side.

Next, you can expect text and email updates on the status of your sweets. Think it took around an hour and 15 for ours to be ready for pickup yesterday prior to that crazy tropical storm that took down a ton of trees around the state and knocked out power to so many.

They also, of course, ask that you mask up whilst you are waiting on line at 92 Spruce Street.

You’ll notice, too, that there are x’s marked on the sidewalk, designating socially distanced spots for standing and passing the minutes before you get your cake and coffee. Ohhh yes, there is indeed COFFEE — iced, hot, and bags of their house blend beans to boot!
