Meet One Of The Folks Behind The Marvelous Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market

Hi, my name is Tim Kearns, and I help run the Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market along with a small group of fellow volunteers. I’ve been a customer of the market for many years (and a farmers market fan in general for even longer), and was asked to join the market as treasurer in 2020.

I work in marketing, so I also decided to start an Instagram account at the same time, to help with promotion. This season my duties have organically grown to include our weekly email newsletter and business/vendor development.

I love to cook & eat with the seasons, and I enjoy supporting local food, local businesses, and local artisans, so it’s a good fit. We’ve been working to grow the market this season, bringing in new vendors — many of them newly-started, very local, female and/or minority-owned.

Maybe that sounds like a small thing, but it means a lot to me to have a vendor say that we’ve helped to make a difference in their life, to have helped give them a little boost. This has happened more this season than I’d have expected.

And on the flip side, it's great when customers say that they appreciate the variety and expanded options, and sense of community.

There’s so much to love, locally! Let’s see, Julian’s is always a go-to, as is/was The Grange (I hope they reopen soon). Rebelle Bagels, for sure (again, I hope Milena & co. can get back to full-time soon). ISCO and Lost Valley/Revival Brewing make for a great night out. And whatever Chance at PVD World Music, and the Providence Drum Troupe are up to, I’m there.

Of course, I’m also a big Pawtuxet Village fan

If I want to get away, Block Island is my happy place for biking, hiking and the beach. I can’t pass up a Payne’s Killer Donut, or lunch at Poor People’s Pub. (I’ll pass on Ballard’s and mopeds, thank you very much.)

Only 2 More Markets To Go!

We have two remaining markets this season, October 23 and 30. You can expect a lot of fun options: lots of fall veggies (we still had a lot of tomatoes last Saturday!), breakfast options, vegan options, handcrafted goods (not too early to start your holiday shopping with our local vendors!), doggie treats...something for everyone.

Then we will return for the 2022 season on the first Saturday in May. In between, you’ll find me shopping at the Farm Fresh RI winter farmers market most Saturday mornings.

For the latest about the Pawtuxet Village Farmers Market, give them a follow them over on IG @Pawtuxet_Farmers_Market.
