The Newport Manse That's A Must See, Especially If You're A Fan Of Christmas Lights

Have Your (S) Elf A Merry Little Christmas

We couldn’t have had a better day weather wise (mid 50’s, clear and sunny) to tour the newly decorated Breakers mansion on Ochre Point Avenue in Newport yesterday.

For the record I’m not reading the Anderson Cooper book about the Vanderbilts, his family on his mother Gloria Vanderbilt’s side who built The Breakers, but it sounds intriguing! (If you were a designer jeans fanatic in the late 70’s, you probably had a pair from her line in your closet. Me? Think someone bought me a kid’s version from Filene’s Basement in Boston that was, shall we say, an homage to the signature GV ones.)

One room was lovelier than the next and it really is a classic way to kickstart the holidays here in Rhode Island — whether you take beaucoup pics with your phone or not. (Keep scrolling to see a dozen of the ones I snapped on Sunday.)

You can buy tickets, at $26 a pop, in advance online or on site when you arrive.

In addition, there is parking by way of a good size lot across the street.

And there’s also this marvelous excitement and energy just being there this time of year.

My Favorite Color Is Chistmast Lights

My one regret is that since our visit was during the day, we missed out on their “Sparkling Lights” displays on the grounds of this awe-inspiring Gilded Age manse, bigger and better than ever before with over 100,000 lites to wow even the grumpiest of Ocean State Grinches.

Yes, if you adore and can’t get enough Christmas lights, then you will want to plan accordingly this season.

For complete deets and to get tickets, do check out their site.

As always, if you take a holly day (or night) at The Breakers after reading this, please do let them know you read about them here via Patty J and PattyJ.com.
