Valentine’s Afternoon At Greenvale Vineyards In Portsmouth

It’s Quite Literally Lit

Break out the cozy sweaters, warm coats and charge up those smart phones because the outdoor space at this Portsmouth winery and vineyard is ideal for your next local adventure with s.o. — especially if you’re forever looking for a reason to get the heck outta the house this season.

Greenvale Vineyards, on Aquidneck Island (yes, you do have to go over the NPT Pell Bridge), is where glamping and wine tasting meet.

It’s not fancy, but it is an entirely pleasant way to spend an hour or three this month.

If you want to ramp up the elevate the aesthetic and channel your inner Martha Stewart (also get around the fact that the vineyard doesn’t have food trucks on site during the winter), I recommend bringing your own heavy duty blankets or throws and a picnic basket with pretty glasses and cheese and crackers.

Honestly we were quite cozy without blankets, in case you were wondering. We did end up ordering a pretty tasty pizza pie from West Main Pizza, a short drive from GV. The hubs zipped over to pick it up, and I ended up inhaling half (no joke) of it.

Now, their tasting room is actually open for biz. Since we are doing all our dining, and occasional wine drinking, out-of-doors for the foreseeable future, we opted instead for seating around our own personal fire pit, which thankfully was looked after by the hostess for the duration of our time there. (Full disclosure, I get anxious if I have to light a Duraflame in our living room fireplace at home.) If you’re not a big fan of fire pits, they do have a patio adjacent area with tower heaters that sounds equally delightful.

Also, as far as wine time, for $24 you can partake of a flight with 4 of their vinos. Full disclosure, I find myself moving away from sweet wines and towards earthier ones these days, so I adored their Meritage (2016), with hints of smoke and dark fruit, and Cabernet Franc (2016), with notes of plum, pepper and spices.

If this sounds like a marvelous way to spend an afternoon, you’ll definitely want to check out their site Greenvale.com and IG @GreenvaleVineyards.

And it would be swell if you could let them know that Patty J sent ya. 😉
