The Kids' Clothing From These Local Rhode Island Makers Is Just Too Cute

During the late 80’s and early 90’s, I shopped vintage almost exclusively. This was back in the days when Thayer Street in Providence was essentially a hub for indie restaurants as well as locally owned record and retro clothing stores.

Side bar, remember Sunny Days Vintage? It was helmed by the same woman, a RISD grad, who went on to launch ZuZu’s Petals on Thayer and in EG. I’m pretty familiar with ZuZu’s because one of my nieces bought a closet full of prom dresses there and was probably a vip customer back in the early aughts. (Spoiler alert — I’m going to be wrapping up this last part in a nice bow a little further down, so keep scrolling.)

Fast forward to 2021 and you are more apt to stumble on a great vintage vendor either at a local market (such as The Providence Flea) or fair or online while scrolling the Explore Tab on your Instagram.

And so it was at the Providence Flea — at their winter space at new-ish Farm Fresh RI complex over on Sims Avenue — a few weeks ago that I happened upon local makers Wildly Witty who specialize in restyling vintage flannels, denim, and other tops. They take a traditional plaid flannel, chambray or tee and add interest with flourishes like patches and tie-dye designs.

What really caught my eye was their selection of kids clothing. I really liked the unique and not-at-all-cookie-cutter look of their shirts for toddlers and onesies. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done my fair share of picking up gifts at Gap Kids, but sometimes you just need to change things up and buy one-of-a-kind items.

Well, folks in case you were wondering how this all connects back to my niece, I bought the nifty denim shirt above for her son (and a onesie not pictured for her daughter) from Wildly Witty. Now I saw him in the shirt and he looked ADORABLE, but unfortunately I don’t have any photos to share here. Just take my word that it looked swell, anything but run-of-the-mill.

To shop Wildly Witty, hop on over to their IG @WildlyWitty or check them out this Saturday (May 8th) at the next Bloom Collective market on Westminster Street in Providence.

As always, if you wind up patronizing Wildly Witty after reading this, please do let them know you found out about them here via Patty J and PattyJ.com.
