It was the Summer of 2015 and I was driving around the West Side, looking for parking, when I saw something unusual β€” a long line of people waiting outside a small red building marked Kitchen.

Keep in mind this was pre the PVDonuts storefront on Ives Street in Fox Point and the snaking lines there that stretch down the block.

Obviously, it was a restaurant, but I'd never heard of it and it looked so tiny.

I made a mental note and moved on.

A few weeks later, I was back, on my way to breakfast at a nearby eatery, when I noticed another line outside that same place, only this time it was even longer.

It was then I knew I had to go to find out what all this fuss was about.

And I kept telling myself what a great post it would be for the blog! (2015 was my 1st summer blogging and the original Kitchen post was pretty darn popular. Don’t even get me started, though, about the online trolls trying to drag me into an argument about the number of diners that the restaurant holds. Oh dee!)

Also, the door handle was a ginormous spoon, which only intrigued me more.

Well, turns out that their home fries alone were so yummy that they could make anyone seriously question their current list of favorite local breakfast or brunch haunts.

Their pancakes, french toast, and heuvos rancheros are excellent too. (I don’t eat bacon or any kind of meat really. If you do, they’ve got you.)

Since the whole place probably seats around 14 or 15 patrons tops, it's probably not a good idea to try waltzing in with an entourage.

Frankly, getting a booth involves a mix of luck, patience, and terrific timing.

Did I also mention that Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp (along with one of his sons apparently, someone messaged me over on IG with that tidbit a while back) breakfasted at Kitchen when they were still together, and he was playing PPAC (Providence Performing Arts Center), back in April 2015?

If you want to see irl and support this tiny gem as we continue to emerge from everything over the last 12 to 18 months, they are open right now on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 12noon for takeout only.

Kitchen is located at 94 Carpenter Street in Providence.

As always, if you end up grabbing some takeaway there because you read about them HERE, please let them know you found them via Patty J and PattyJ.com.
