3 Local Rhode Island Food Trucks That You'll Want To Seek Out This Summer

Summer around these parts is food truck season at its very best!

The wonderful news ty is that the food tastes just as yummy on a cloudy or foggy (this morning looked like something out of ABC’s General Hospital circa 1982, the story arc when Genie Francis’ character Laura Webber Baldwin Spencer disappeared in the fog that was enveloping Port Charles back then) day as it does when the sun’s shining in a big way.

No doubt you already have your short list of go-to’s and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. (Not gonna lie — I myself have been guilty of being a creature of habit when it comes to grabbing lunch at Shayna’s in Wickford or hitting repeat on the online ordering for the Garden Grille in Pawtucket, their squash quesdillas in particular.)

If you want to think outside the usual takeout boxes, though, I have three (3) under-the-radar options that are phenomenal but in my humble opinion, don’t get the kind of online buzz that they so deserve.

The best poke bowls I’m betting that you haven’t dipped into yet? Gansett Poke for sure!

The menu is appetizingly impressive in terms of options, the ingredients are super fresh, and the team there is always friendly.

Yes, they have a lovely little brick and mortar storefront on Boston Neck Road. Once the beaches open up, however, they also roll out their cute solar powered cart (helloooo, green energy trailblazers) and set up every Monday and Wednesday evening (weather permitting naturally) at Narragansett Town Beach.

Give them a follow over on IG @Gansett_Poke to keep up with the latest and greatest from them.

The family behind Cafe Modesto Coffee Truck brew up their lattes, cappuccino, and Americanos using coffee beans from Guatemala, one of the top java producing countries in the whole entire world.

And this I’m guessing played a big part in why the lattes I’ve bought were so smooth and yummy without the slightest hint of bitterness or acidic aftermath. (Trust me folks, if it doesn’t already, that last detail will matter to you someday when you are 40+.)

You can usually find them on the South Water side of the beautiful Providence Pedestrian Bridge. You’ll also want to keep up with them on Insta @CafeModestoProvidence.

I really like that these freshly baked (on the very truck that you’re patronizing no less), cake style doughnuts are MINIS: No disrespect to other Rhody based donut makers, but sometimes less is more, more, MORE!

Not one but two bites sized means you can splurge on multiple flavor experiences, instead of eating your way thru a single ginormous donut and then immediately following, being way too full to even look at another sweet.

I first discovered Black Dog Donuts at the Providence Flea this past spring and now they’re making the rounds of the summertime ft event nights around the Ocean State. You can also pre-order online and set up home delivery (depending on where you currently reside). They also whip up these neat dessert cups with layers upon layers of cream and donuts, brownies, and such.

For complete deets, check them out on Insta @BlackDogDonutSquad.

As always, if you frequent any of these fine ft’s, please let them know you heard about them via PattyJ.com and Patty J.
