Two people I know hiked with baby goats at Simmons Farm last year.

Why you ask?
GOAT HIKES! With your own personal goat.
On a sunshine filled day in early May, a group of around 20 adults and children joined a very excited me on a 1.5 hour hike along a gorgeous property. Brilliant acres and acres filled with trails, lush with spring green and flowers right now, open fields overlooking Narragansett Bay, the Newport Bridge visible in the distance.
The owner, Karla Simmons (a.k.a. the goat whisperer), was full of all the goat information we would need.
It was baby season when I went: Imagine the cuteness, it was beyond heart tugging.
After a goat-fact-filled orientation, it was time to pair up with my goat. It was suggested that (you) “let the goat choose you.”

That is when I met James Brown. He chose me immediately. A brown and white sweet yet determined handsome boy with the most gorgeous eyes and little horns. We became instant friends.
What is it like walking a goat? It’s like walking a dog. A happy and determined dog who wants to stop and eat every blade of grass, clover and scrumptious branch of leaves along the way.
Joining us in various places on the trail, big Mama pig with her five spunky little pink piglets, Mama duck and her fluffy ducklings, Mama Cow and her calf, all going on about their cute little lives.
I cannot recommend this adventure enough. All the animals were so very well taken care of. It was a joy to be out in nature surrounded by life on a farm. There were handwashing stations before and after handling the animals. And lemonade refreshments were offered as well.
Of course I did not want the fun to end. Another visit is a definite. Said goodbye to James Brown and I wonder will he remember me the next time, would he still choose me?
As the James Brown song goes, “I Feel Good.”
Simmons Farm also has cheese making classes and goat yoga along with the goat hikes. Fun for the whole family.
