We Stumbled On This Delightful British Bake Shop In Middletown, Rhode Island
Last time I was in London, I can remember walking miles around the city in search of pizza and also eating a ton of bread and butter — which is considered a legit appetizer across the pond — at various cafes and restaurants.
Now, flash forward to a few yrs ago in Middletown, Rhode Island and a lovely British bakery we stumbled upon mostly by accident.
And mate, even if you don’t fancy a cuppa (tea), have never ridden the London Eye, or haven’t watched one single episode of The Great British Baking Show, you’re gonna luv it.

Now, in the past I’ve been known to say something like: “You’ve probably motored by many times without realizing!” In this case, however, THAT couldn’t be more true because June Love’s English Bakery is located in a plaza that’s behind another plaza on Aquidneck Road. (The only reason we found it was because we were searching for another gem in the area.)
Anywho, whenever we’ve popped into June Love’s English Bakery, we’ve been greeted almost immediately by June herself, who is in fact from England and who was probably putting the finishing touches on meat pies or something.
It doesn’t get much more ENGLISH than that, am I right?
As non-meat eaters, we were drawn more to the refrigerated display of flapjacks (which we learned are not pancakes at all but oat bars), scones (let me just say YUM and I ate two), shortbread, and rock buns or cakes you might know from the Harry Potter books (a delicious treat for anyone craving something substantial but without all the sugar of most traditional cakes or cookies).

People have also been known to rave about the lemon tarts and cakes which, I might add, are just as tasty with coffee (as opposed to say Earl Grey TEA) as an accompaniment.
During the spring and summer you can also catch June at the Newport famers markets on Memorial Boulevard as well as at Casey and Mt. Hope Farms.
So, channel your inner prince or duchess (or 1970’s rock star…helloooo Mick, David, Elton, Rod, and Robt!) and take a spin over to pick up some classic English baked goods.
I understand that sometimes she even has different candies from the UK too.
