The Providence Tapas Restaurant For Your Next Night Out With Friends

First spotted the eye-catching yellow frontage of Aguardente while weekend strolling on Governor Street the winter before last. (It’s actually set back from the street quite a bit, so unless you’re looking for it specifically or you are on foot, you’ll probably motor right by.)

After having dipped into a bunch of small plates and a sangria or two there, I can honestly say the food and atmosphere at this inspired tapas bar and restaurant are pretty darn marvelous!

The interior is dim yet cozy with a spectacular bar area, cushy adjacent seating, and pops of color and greenery throughout.

It’ll have you asking yourself, “Is this PVD or Barcelona?”

The menu is ginormous and a delightful mix of shareable plates with Portuguese and Guatemalan influences.

We have leaned heavily on the Garden Power (aka, meat free) section, opting for things like their Plato de Huitlacoche (sautéed mushrooms with onions, jalapeños, salt and a side satisfyingly crispy chips). We have also split their Street Tacos.

And last but certainly not least, I heart their Queijo Fresco, a fresh cheese wedge flavored with olive oil, paprika, onions, and garlic with a generous side of Portuguese bread.

Also, there’s no shortage of intriguing cocktails and vino. (I tend to lean towards sangria but hey, that’s me…)

If you’re looking to break out of a beginning-of-Spring restaurant rut (we’ve all been there), I suggest taking your significant other for a romantic date nite or meeting friends there for some sips and a mini feast of scrumptious eats.

Find Aguardente at 12 Governor Street in Providence, RI.
