Breakfast At This RI Resort Is The Next Best Thing To A Trip To The Swiss Alps

Reserving one of the revamped vintage ski chalets at The Fondue Village at Ocean House (part of an ongoing partnership with Veuve Cliquot and possibly inspired by something in Switzerland circa 2016 called Fondue In The Sky whereby a fleet of gondolas in the village of Villars-sur-Ollon were turned into tiny little floating fondue restaurants) has been on my wish list for what feels like forever.

Food aside for a second, the setting looks gorgeous: As I understand it, the chalets have been updated with chandeliers, heated floors, and luxe draperies and upholstery. At this point and time it’s the closest thing, I would imagine, to being in the Swiss Alps, hobnobbing with the likes of Roger Federer, Tina Turner, and Prince Charles, who have all been known to have traveled there on a regular basis during those relatively carefree pre-pandemic days.

So, when I heard that they had added winter breakfast and afternoon crepe service this year, at lower rates than the original dinner packages which start at around $400 plus tip for parties of up to four, I decided to go for it. (See my thru the lense of Town & Country and Hello! magazines justification above.)

After scouring their site for a few (long) minutes, it soon become apparent that I was NOT the only one who wanted to get in on the whole daytime and al fresco-ish (the doors to each one are wide open) meal situation. Everything appeared to be booked up solid, until I spotted a 10am slot for breakfast on Thursday, December 17th. Hurra! (How people say hooray in Switzerland, or at least how Google is telling me that they do.)

Of course, we now know that was the day we got clobbered with more than eight inches of snow. Thankfully I was able to reschedule to another day this month, after Christmas, which means I can’t dazzle you with any personal photos or observations…YET!

So, please do stay tuned because I’ll be sharing more real soon.

PS — As long as the breakfast faire there includes carbs, chocolate, and hot beverages, I’ll be a happy camper.
