Farmers markets are a breezy way to spend an hour or two, whether you want to stock up on local produce or browse unique items from a variety of micro businesses from around the OS.

But what to do if you’re someone whose weekend routine just doesn’t gel with most of the market schedules?

Or you’re someone who likes to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday, and the mere thought of rushing out of the house super early to get your hands on some native tomatoes and kale does not sound appealing at all.

Well, I stumbled on a Monday market that overlooks the water AND takes place in the late afternoon., from 3 to 6pm.

When I was in Jamestown over the weekend (be posting about THAT tomorrow), a ginormous banner in front of the Recreation Center on Conanicus Avenue, advertising the farmers market on Monday afternoon, jumped out at me.

Hellooooo!

I immediately started making a plan to motor over for it — and grab an incredible sandwich at the neighboring East Ferry Deli beforehand. (Can’t recommend them enough btw. The lines are out the door this time of year, but their sandwiches are worth the inconvenience.)

And if I may be so bold, strongly recommend that you do the same. You may want to add it to your favorites for when you want, need, have to take a “personal day” later this summah.

After noontime coffee with a friend who works in marketing, I zipped over the JT Bridge (is it me or does driving over THAT bridge and into town just bring about an immediate calmness and joy) and found myself parking in the shade.

First stop — as promised — waiting on line at East Ferry for an amazing tuna on marble rye with lettuce and tomato.

Thankfully by the time my order was ready, a few tables with umbrellas had opened up too, so yayyy.

You guys, I did make the mistake of NOT bringing reusable shopping bags with me. (I mean, it’s not as though we haven’t collected dozens over the last few years?)

Otherwise, it was an enjoyable and pretty successful shopping trip.

I picked up fresh strawberries, cucumbers, green peppers, and kale from Windmist Farm over in the Windmill Hill Historic District and some tasty baked goods (including a coffee blonde brownie which I’ve never heard of or seen anywhere else) from Marla’s Magic and Our Table Jamestown.

There was also a booth with lotsa fresh bread, live music, another grower with even more produce, a local artist selling her work, a soap maker, and two kiddos selling homemade dog treats.

Then there are the sweet views of the water and the NPT Bridge.

Sounds fantastic, amirite?
