At The Hen House Last Weekend

No doubt you’ve seen me posting from Wickford and Pawtuxet Villages, but not so much Chepachet, a Rhody hamlet in the town of Glocester that dates all the way back to (!!!) 1639.

The most famous retail establishment in that neck of the woods is definitely Brown & Hopkins Country Store, which was founded in 1809 and has the distinction of being one of the oldest one-stop-shops of its kind in the whole entire US of A.

It’s also surrounded by a few antique stores that look pretty promising. (Wish I had the talent to be able to transform old furniture. If you want to see 2 amazing area businesses that specialize and excel in that, check out The Golden Sparrow and Painted Karma.)

The Hen House, a refurbished old house turned truly LOCAL mercantile!

It is an updated for the 21st century take on the Americana that is the general store, making it a nice compliment to B&H.

If you’re someone who lives for a well curated and well lit selection of some of the best made in Rhode Island food, drink and merch, then the cheery 2 floors and back deck at The Hen House is egg-zactly where you’ll wanna be some weekend in the not too distant future.

Yes, they have fresh eggs (duh), but there’s sooooo much more, including but not limted to: Queen V’s Honey (local honey and all natural beeswax products from right there in Chepachet), teas and herbs from Sanctuary Herbs of Providence, bread from Hadley’s Harvest, Yacht Club Soda, babka from Buns Bakery, aprons from Sew Perfect, and Anchor Toffee candy.
