The Dog Friendly North Kingstown Beach For Walks With Your Best Friend

We staycationed in Newport last week at a fantastic — and doggie friendly — hotel. (Thank you, Wayfinder! Sharing more about our weekend there later in the week.)

Several of our fellow guests had their cute dogs in tow: I mean, we’re talking them along with everywhere these days!

With that in mind, thought I’d shine a little light on another local spot where you can take your beloved…

If you’re looking for a shore (albeit rocky but that’s par for the course here in Lil Rhody, amirite?) that welcomes doggies, a good friend looped me in on a spot called Compass Rose Beach in North Kingstown, also known as the Sea Plane Beach at Quonset. (Full disclosure, my friend takes her grand-dog there all the time.)

If you don’t live in NK or aren’t acquainted with someone who does, odds are that it may NOT be on your radar.

Named for a compass that had been painted on the ground near the airport during WWII (pilots who were taking off could look down and double check that the plane’s compass was functioning properly), mostly worn away at this point btw, it’s a paw-fect place for strolling with your 4-legged best friend.

Especially right now.

Regular visitors appreciate that there are poop bag stations.

And for humans, a Porta Potty.

Also, a picnic area and some sweet views of the Bay and the Jamestown Bridge.

Interested in taking a spin over there today (gotta say….it’s another gorgeous May day here in the Ocean State)?

Simply pop 1542 - 1598 Roger Williams Way, North KIngstown, RI 02852 into your gps app of choice and motor over.
