The Cute Coffee Window We Stumbled Upon Near The Spite Tower In Adamsville
If Larry David ever visits Little Compton (hey, it could happen), someone needs to take him by The Spite Tower in Adamsville, a village in LC named for President John Adams that dates back to 1675. Apparently there are still to this day all kinds of tales of money, love and bitterness swirling around the 1905 contruction of the three-story, cannot-miss-it white tower (that frankly sound like they could lend themselves very nicely to a treatment for a period drama on Netflix or HULU but I’ll let you be the judge).
I say this because yesterday afternoon we went in search of something near Adamsville. Unfortunately it didn’t pan out. But the hubs and I did happen upon this cute little carryout spot (see photo below) just over the line in Westport, Massachusetts that uses locally roasted, organic coffee. And in the brewing process, Gray’s Daily Grind also reportedly includes not tap but spring water, which I do at home and have gotten a lotta grief about over the years. In all honesty, you will want to bookmark it and save to faves because from what I’ve seen, there really isn’t anywhere else in the vicinity to grab coffee or hot chocolate and whatnot.
It’s strictly a takeout window situation these days — which I personally love — and the menu is huge. There’s everything from Americanos and Espresso to brekkie sandwiches, bubble tea, Knead Donuts, and a whole host of St. Patrick’s Day themed beverages.

I understand that in addition to a pancake and waffle mix, Gray’s Grist Mill, the building that the coffee shop’s adjacent to which also happens to be one of the oldest still in operation mills of its kind in the whole entire country, produces this Rhode Island Jonnycake Corn Meal. You can even buy online and have it shipped to friends and relatives if you’re so inclined.
Pre-pandemic, they actually used to do tours at the mill. I’m sure they will again, but right now I guess it’s a waiting game.
