RI Style Diaries: Loathe Winter, Live For Boots

My new Stewie ankle boots

My new Stewie ankle boots

Chatting with someone this morning who told me this is her fav time of year, when the weather starts to turn chilly. (For the record, yesterday was definitely chillier than it’s been and today started out that way, but warmed up later in the afternoon.) Then she asked ME if it was OK to start wearing her boots yet.

Now, I’m no Anna Wintour (Check out Conde Nast’s 72 Questions with Anna. It’s sublime.) or Derek Blasberg (Guy about up town and downtown who talks up models and ‘it’ girls in his monthly column in Harper’s Bazaar), but I say the time is now. If you’ve got ‘em, wear ‘em.

That’s why I made the pilgrimage over to TJ Maxx in Seekonk today to pick up my Stuart Weitzman ankle boots. I’d put them on layaway a few weeks ago, along with a Vince sweater and a pair of pointy suede flats. (A little tip about footwear – Pointy toes make your legs look longer. Who wouldn’t want that?)

The benefits of shopping at TJ’s? Brands like Stewie and Vince at a discount and the option to put them on layaway. As someone who spent years paying full price and then, even more years shopping with an employee discount (at a certain high end retailer), I’m reluctant to pay full price for anything these days. Enter The Runway section at TJ Maxx.

The problem with shopping at TJ’s? Finding more things to obsess over, like the Rag & Bone black harness boots and Vince black leather pants (both 50% off the reg price) that I found while picking up my layaway. For right now, those lines are about as close as I’m going to get to my big dream of having an entire wardrobe from The Row. Hear that MK & Ashley???

And speaking of Anna Wintour, she would definitely NOT approve of any of this. First, I highly doubt she’s familiar with TJ’s. Second, one thing she says (in her 72 Questions) she’d never ever wear? Head to toe black.

All I’ll say to that is #whatever.
